    Weather and Hair

Hair is a very delicate part of the human body and is susceptible to the slightest change in the atmosphere. Every weathers is characterized by different levels of heat, moisture, polluting components, and windiness. Each weather affects are hair differently lets look at their effects season by season:

Summers : Summers bring along a lot of beach and pool fun and lying in the sun to get a beautiful tan. Everyone likes spending a lot of time outdoors to enjoy the warmth. However, two more factors synonymous with summers are heat and humidity and any women can tell you how difficult it is to maintain a hairstyle in hot & humid weather. The reason behind this is that hair bonds are broken by the application of heat and water. This is why wet-sets are used along with curling irons and blow-dryers to style them.

However, explosion to hot & humid weather reopens those earlier managed bonds, resulting into bad texture and loss of style.

Another weather impact of summers is sun damage. Like skin, melanin in hair is also affected by the crouching heat. Prolonged sun exposure can lighten the hair color. Similar effect is observed on human hair wigs as well. The UV rays penetrate the hair shaft and disperse the melanin that gives the hair its color.

Winters : Winters are characterized by cold and dry air that causes the cuticle layer in hair to lift. The cold & static winter winds absorb the moisture from hair and leaving them dry and frizzy. It also makes hair static, resulting into unruly & rigid hair. Apart from this hair dandruff is a common scalp problem in winters. People who wear human hair wigs find it more difficult to manage due to a constant covering on their heads. Cold weather also leads to the over-drying of hair, which leaves it porous and more likely to turn frizzy.

Humidity : Humid weather has higher degrees of vapor in the air. It leads to dried out, frizzy hair, puffing hair. Hair become frizzy when they absorb the moisture from air and hence expand, become twisted and loose shape. Humid weather makes it necessary to use heated flat irons on the hair to straighten them. At the same time overuse of heating products strips hair of its natural oils and distorts the natural shape of the hair cuticle, accounting for the frizzy appearance.

Windy : Wind can damage the hair, resulting into tangles, snags, wavy and curly hair. Strong wind brushes hair against one another, damaging the cuticle layer and resulting into split ends.
